Richard has extensive knowledge and wide-ranging experience of the utilities industry and the retail power sector. Following several years, firstly as an analyst then as a trader, at Innogy plc, Richard moved on to trading for ABB Treasury and Energy Services (UK) plc and Ecotricity. More recently he has been working for a number of clients advising on risk management and price modelling issues.
His knowledge base covers wholesale power and derivatives, gas and spark spread trading, credit management, cost control and contractual and regulatory issues. Richard is adept at modelling pricing and risk management problems and at analysing developing emissions-related matters in the power sector.
Nigel Harris : Senior Associate
Nigel has more than 30 years of oil trading and broking experience. An economist by training, Nigel has worked in supply, trading and refining for BP and as a crude oil broker, for 3 different companies - First National Oil Consultants, Amerex Petroleum and Tullett Prebon. This has given him an unparalleled list of industry contacts and friends. He has witnessed first hand the gradual commoditization of the oil market and was one of the first brokers to become involved in this dated to paper 'CFD' market.
With vast execution experience Nigel is able to advise clients on the working of the derivatives market and to assist their entry into and ongoing participation in the market.
Catherine Jago : Senior Associate
Catherine has more than 27 years experience in oil and energy trading, hedging, and pricing. With a varied background, Catherine has worked in trade and supply for BP, as a broker for Poten and Partners, as an oil journalist for ICIS LOR, as a credit consultant for MRC Oxford, a management consultant for Arthur D Little and a trader for Ciren Energy Ltd. She has a legal training, combined with a scientific background, which, together with her breadth of experience, means that she has a range of talents to contribute. She has acted as an expert in more than 50 oil and gas cases, many involving hedging issues, and has given evidence on a number of occasions in High Court, arbitration and ICC proceedings. She has lectured worldwide on many subjects in the oil industry including hedging, refining, crude oil and products trading.
She has written two chapters for the Oil trading Manual published by Woodhead on Credit Control and Pricing.
Andy Kerr: Senior Associate
Andy was involved in the first UK Emissions Trading Scheme and has since managed participation in and traded on behalf of a number of different companies in the UK, EU and Kyoto carbon markets.
Andy has worked with governments and corporations in North America, Europe and Australasia as they develop their strategic responses to environmental and climate change challenges. He has performed this type of work for the UK, Italian and Scottish Governments, as well as for a number of global blue-chip companies such as Ford, Intergen, Vattenfall, Endessa, Royal Mail, WWF, Scottish & Southern Energy, amongst many others.
Andy is the author of a number of papers and Government reports on climate change policy and emissions trading and the implications for the energy sector. He is the co-author of Climate Change and Emissions Trading: What Every Business Needs to Know. Andy is currently Director of SAGES, a £15m initiative to pool resources in Scottish Universities to engage with business and policy agendas and tackle some of the grand environmental challenges of today, and a Director of strategic consultancy E3 International Pty Ltd.

Robert is head of ResourcesLaw International Associates, our affiliated consulting firm, based in Sydney, Australia. Robert has extensive international energy connections and serves as the Executive Director of the Energy Alliance of Australia. Robert provides specialist advisory services to our clients on energy policy, climate policy, energy investment, project financing and risk management. Robert has been a consultant to the APEC Energy Working Group on a number of international studies, including cross-border power, cross-border gas projects, electricity industry reform and energy security.
In 1982, Robert was the founding chairman of the Section on Energy Law of the International Bar Association. He is closely associated with the London-based World Energy Council and served as a member of its Finance Committee for 9 years until 2007.
